I am glad to release hostmap version 0.2.2.
In this version there are a lot of bug fixes and some new features.

Introduction

hostmap is a free, automatic, hostnames and virtual hosts discovery tool written in Ruby and licensed under GNU General Public License version 3 (GPLv3). It’s goal is to enumerate all hostnames and configured virtual hosts on an IP address. The primary users of hostmap are professionals performing vulnerability assessments and penetration tests.

Changes

Some of the new features include:

* Fixed hostname dictionary “big” list name.
* Fixed DNS AXFR zone transfer check that was prone to false positives under some circumstances.
* Added automatic check for new updates. You can disable it in configuration file or using the option –without-update.
* Fixed DNS History plugin that can raise SystemExit under some strange circumstances.
* Changed the job scheduler. Now is more fast, robust and fine tuned.
* Added a dynamic thread pool, now you can use –threads to choose the number of concurrent threads.
* Some minor fixes.

* Fixed handling of Errno::ECONNRESET in SSL certificate plugin.
* Upgraded net-dns to latest version from git repository.
* Fixed traceback on Mac OSX due to net-dns bug.
* Added check to enumerate host names with DNS TLD expansion.
* Added –print-maltego to get output in Maltego XML format.
* Fixed the exception handling architecture, now unknown exceptions that can be raised on not supported system are handled.
* Fixed traceback on FreeBSD due to raising of different exceptions.
* Added Metasploit auxiliary module in extra folder.
* Added validation of -t option, if it isn’t an IP address hostmap is stopped.
* Added enumeration plugin timeout, by default at 10 minutes. Can be changed with user supplied –timeout option.
* Moved website from http://hostmap.sourceforge.net to http://hostmap.lonerunners.net
* Added warning message to fix traceback if missing libopenssl-ruby.

* Added Rakefile to automatize task. For example readme and API documentation rebuilding.
* Changed info gathering plugin architecture. Now using PlugMan library.
* Added some host names to brute forcing dictionaries.
* Added parsing of alternate subject (subjectAltName) from X.509 certificates.
* Added info gathering plugin using dnshistory.org.
* Added wildcard domains detection.
* Added wildcard X.509 certificate detection.
* Added -d option to use a user supplied list of DNS servers
* Added blacklist for second level TLD (for example co.uk) detection.
* Added an enumeration plugin to use Microsoft Bing via API. API key must be provided in configuration file.
* Added a configuration file (hostmap.conf) to keep user settings.
* Added option –http-ports to specify the ports to check for an HTTP/HTTPS service.
